San Antonio

We are finally mostly settled in San Antonio, TX. We are closing on our new (not brand new, but new to us) house next week. Seeing as I still don't know many people around town it is hard to spread the word about my photography business. I am going to hold a contest to hopefully get people interested and then hopefully they will spread the word about me!

I will be giving away one children's portrait session with the winner to be announced on January 1, 2008. All you have to do is tell me why you think you should win the contest and tell me a little bit about your family. The portraits can be of up to 4 children + 2 parents (if desired). If you just want pictures of your kids that is fine as well.

Contest Rules:
Only one entry per person.
All entries must be submitted to lucy at grazusphotography.com by Dec. 31, 2007, 5 pm CST.
Tell me why you deserve to win!
Must live within 30 miles of San Antonio, TX.
Must have at least one child (no adult only sessions are being offered).

Spread the word among your friends, maybe one of you will win!

Paban & Nina

I have finally completed (mostly) my dear friend, Paban's wedding pictures. He married Nina back in August in a traditional Hindu ceremony with an American style reception. The whole weekend was absolutely wonderful and I am so glad I was able to be there for it. Nina and Paban are both gorgeous (and super nice and wonderful as well) and the wedding was simply stunning. The colors were amazing, everyone was so nice and friendly.

Here are some pictures of their beautiful day, click on the pictures for the slideshow (there are two different slideshows).

wow!

Wow! It has been a whole month since I posted. I guess it has been a pretty slow month around here photowise. In other news, we are moving to San Antonio, TX, so anyone out there who wants to hire me to take pretty pictures, let me know. I am really going to try and get the business up and running when we move, so feel free to spread the word to any friends and family you have in that area. Thanks!

Trash the dress

I had my first trash the dress session this past weekend. It was great fun, and we didn't totally ruin the dress, just got it a little dirty. I am sure it will clean right up with some dry cleaning. Here are a few of my favorite shots! Enjoy.

Cute kids

The past few weeks I have seen lots of the cute kids in my life and taken some adorable pictures of them. Thought you might like to see. These kids are so cute it is impossible to take a bad picture of them.

Debbie & Alex

I had my first official engagement shoot last Friday. I think it went alright. I would have liked a little more time, but I think I was able to make some decent pictures in the time I had. I will be shooting their wedding in October! Feel free to click over to Flickr for the whole set.

great idea

As you noticed by the long list of photographers to right, I love looking at what others are doing. It helps to come up with great new ideas for my business and site. Today I found Walters & Walters Photography based in Raleigh. I have been toying with the idea of having people write reviews after I shoot their wedding, but they put a really neat twist on it. They have the Brides' Favorite page, which shows the bride's favorite picture and why she liked it. I think it is a great way to showcase your talent as well as show how people are excited by your work. So if anyone out there reading this has a favorite picture from their wedding that I happened to take, please let me know, I would love to start a similar page.

My new camera is here! Of course I didn't bring any lenses or memory cards with me, so I will have to wait until I get home to take some pretty new pictures. I am excited, it is pretty, and I am sure it will take pretty pictures.

The old camera is on its' way to Canon to get repaired (hopefully), so until then it will be a one camera show. But then soon enough there will be two cameras and Matt can be my assistant and we can take twice as many pictures! How exciting.

This weekend we are heading to a wedding and a baptism, so there will be some fun new pictures next week.

Links

I added a bunch of links over on the right hand side. There are so many great photographers out there. I have chosen a few of my favorites who also happen to have photography blogs. These are all portrait/wedding photographers. Enjoy browsing them.

Tara & John

Here are a few more pictures from Tara and John's wedding this past weekend. They are totally adorable. John smashed Tara with some cake and then Tara fought back. There are plenty of other pictures over at flickr.

Tara and John

We are back from the wedding in Florida. We had a lovely time catching up with some old friends and seeing some tie the knot. There are plenty of pictures, but I am still busy sorting through most of them. Here are a couple of my favorites so far.

weekend wedding

I am quite excited. This weekend I am going to a wedding in Florida. I should have some pretty pictures next week. Although I am still just a guest at the wedding and not getting paid I am excited to be in a different venue and to continue to add to my portfolio. I also just got a new flash (actually I still have to pick it up from UPS), but I am very excited about trying out a few things. Hopefully I will be back with some lovely photos.

I am also ready to move, so that I can full-on launch this business. I have to be patient for a few more months and then the fun will hopefully begin.

Thank you to everyone who has told their friends about me, I really appreciate it. Word of mouth is the best advertising I can get. It is just too bad that everyone who wants to use me lives far, far away.

My sister has agreed to do a trash the dress session in St. Louis this summer. I am going there for another wedding in August, and she is going to find a wedding dress at a thrift store and we are going to go out on the town and get dirty. I can't wait! Also if anyone in NC wants to do a trash the dress, I bought a dress that is a size 8 (I think it should fit a slightly smaller person as well).

first newborn shoot

This weekend I had the privilege of taking some lovely pictures of some friends' new baby. She is precious and her parents just continually showered her with love. She is one lucky little girl. And the parents are totally adorable as well.

Laura & Richard

A few weeks ago I went to my old labmate's wedding in northern Virginia. It was a traditional Vietnamese ceremony. There was an evening reception that we were unable to attend, so I only have a few pictures from the morning ceremony. Enjoy!

Things I am dreaming of....

I really want to buy one of these adorable petticoat skirts to take cute little girl pictures like this and this. I also want to buy some cute little baby hats to use in pictures as well. I am hoping that when I go to the market this summer with my mom I will be able to find some of these things at wholesale.

I created a myspace page for my business (please add me if you are on there).

I bought a wedding dress yesterday to use for trash the dress. It was $10 at TJ Maxx. It was in the designer section of the store was originally $355, and at TJ was originally like $199, so not bad. It is a size 8, but fits me (I normally wear a size 4-6), so I figure I can probably find someone to wear it and take some fun pictures. And for $10 I think it was a great deal.

Trash the dress

There is this great website that I found recently. It is called Trash the Dress. Basically the idea is that you are only going to wear your wedding dress once and that your children won't want to wear it so why bother storing it in a closet for the next 50 years when you can take some totally awesome pictures to remember it by. I am not so sure I want to do this with my own dress, because I am still holding out hope that I will find somewhere to wear it even though there is no wear acceptable to actually wear it and it probably wouldn't fit me anyways, but I really want someone to do it, so I can take some lovely pictures. So anyone up for it? Most of you don't even live nearby, so I doubt it, but worth a shot right?

P.S. If someone wants to participate doesn't feel gutsy enough to trash their own dress, we could certainly buy a cheap one from a thrift store or ebay and do it that way.
